Our Perspective Article entitled “Harnessing Advances in Bone Tissue Engineering for Design of Bone-on-Chip Systems” has been published in Advanced Healthcare Materials. This perspective outlines how progress in bone tissue engineering, such as dynamic biomaterials, tailored microenvironments, and mechanical cues, can be leveraged to advance the design of physiologically relevant bone-on-chip (BoC) systems. The article bridges fundamental principles from biomaterials science and organ-on-chip technology, and provides a roadmap for translating BoCs into platforms for disease modeling and therapeutic testing. This collaborative effort was co-led by Diba Lab PhD candidates Farhad Sanaei and Yannick Hajee, in collaboration with Dr. David Wu (Harvard University), and Drs. Gerry Koons, Sander Leeuwenburgh, Jeroen van den Beucken, and Mani Diba (Radboudumc). We look forward to building further on the strategies and design principles outlined in this perspective.
